Kevin James Clay Shoot

CLAY SHOOT #7 – SUCCESS!

By: Kevin Janse – Northwest Director

It’s official! We are seven for seven when it comes to putting on a successful, money raising clay shoot to benefit the Assist the Officer Foundation.  The Kevin James Clay Shoot took place on Good Friday and boy was it ever!  The weather started crisp while shooters registered, ate breakfast (thank you Central Market) and browsed over the raffle items, that included multiple guns, a gun safe and a Peacock Bass Fishing Trip in Brazil.

Shooters were given their respective courses and sent out on golf carts to shoot stuff!  Fifteen stations and 100 shots later it was back to base camp for the game of all games, SHOTGUN GOLF!  You would be surprised how far and high a golf ball will go if you put it on a steel slab and shoot just behind it.  The closest ball to the hole, which was all of three feet, won a pistol!

While scores were being tallied, the participants enjoyed a lunch of fish (Good Friday remember), hamburgers, hush puppies and French fries, all cooked up by the world famous (kinda) DPA Double 6 Cook Team.  A huge shout out to Demarcus Turner and all the cooks.

The raffle and fifty/fifty drawing were done before the winners in each category were announced.   A huge thank you goes out to the entire Clay Shoot Committee with special thanks to Beth Sunquist, Caroline Ivey, Vicky White, Kevin Campbell and Sean Pease. You all made Kevin proud I’m sure.

For those that don’t know, Christopher Kevin James was a Dallas Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty in 2001.  The Kevin James Endowment and Kevin James Clay Shoot were created to keep his memory alive.

The event sells out every year, with most of the shooters always saying to count them in for next year, so be looking next April for the 8th Annual Kevin James Clay Shoot and come get your shoot on!
